Bees of the Mercantour territory: Diversity and Pollination
The "Bees of the Mercantour-Alpi Marittime territory: Diversity and Pollination" project has a twin objective:
To gain a more accurate idea of the diversity of wild bees within the Mercantour-Alpi Marittime territory: inventories have revealed that one-third of France's bees find refuge in these mountains, but a fuller understanding is needed of the distribution and ecology of the different species, and there are probably new discoveries to be made.
To better understand the interaction between the hay meadows (high altitude areas of grassland) and the wild bees. The hay meadows appear to provide a very favourable environment for wild bees, and the bees could reciprocate by pollinating these environments, thus playing a part in their conservation.
This project is related to the project to improve awareness of the biodiversity of the Mercantour-Alpi Marittime territory and the work to conserve and understand the functioning of the hay meadows, an environment that is in sharp decline but has strong potential to support biodiversity.
