Preservation of the Javan rhinoceros
The Javan rhinoceros is one of the most endangered large mammals on Earth. This species is currently only found in the National Park of Ujung Kulon in Indonesia. A recent study showed that only about fifty Javan rhinos remain; the species can no longer reproduce, and the population can no longer grow by itself without human aid.
The goal of the IRF is to create an area of 4,000 hectares extending from the National Park region dedicated to the protection and research of the Javan rhinoceros.
Increasing its habitat zone in the National Park of Ujung Kulon should enable the rhinoceros population to regenerate and provide an opportunity to transport individuals to this second protection area in order to create a new population stock.
