On the occasion of World Oceans Day on 8th June, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, together with the team from the Shanghai International Film Festival, presented to the Chinese press the setting up of the festival’s "environment" section.
A video message from H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince explaining the Principality of Monaco’s involvement in ocean protection and the screening of the trailer of Jacques Perrin’s film brought the conference to a close.
Sunday 13th June 2010
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, in conjunction with the Monaco Pavilion, organised the premiere screening in China of Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud's film, Océans. The film was produced with the support of, among others, the Government of Monaco, the Prince Albert II Foundation and the Oceanographic Institute.
The Chairman of the Festival’s Jury, film director John Woo, attended the event as did Ms Tang Lijung, Director of the Festival, Mr Kuang Yu Zhu, Vice-President of the Finance and Economics Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, H.E. Mr Bernard Fautrier, Vice-President of the Prince Albert II Foundation, Ms Hsu Feng, Consul of Monaco in Shanghai, and Ms Catherine Fautrier, Commissioner General of the Pavilion.
A screening of the film Océans, sold out in advance, marked the official opening of the new film section devoted to the environment. Other films such as “Antarctica 2009, a continent in a state of alert” relating HSH the Prince’s expedition to this region in 2009 and “Carbon, Public Enemy n° 1” will be showing throughout the Festival, thanks to the Foundation.
At the end of the event, H.E. Mr Bernard Fautrier was presented with a plaque listing the 30 most original ideas put forward by internet users for environmental protection and which were submitted to the SIFF website on the occasion of the setting up of this section. The 30 originators of the ideas were invited to the premiere screening, wearing a “Beautiful ‘cos I’m green” T-shirt.
The applause given at the end of the screening showed to what extent the audience appreciated the film and the cause it defends. The issue of environmental protection is considered by the young Chinese generation not as a political matter but as an everyday necessity.
